"I like Warrior Coffee because it is organically produced and the taste is absolutely delicious. I know that my day will be awesome when I grind some freshly roasted Warrior Coffee beans in the morning and make a steaming cup of coffee with my AeroPress."
Marcus "Caveman" Vänttinen is a Finnish MMA Heavyweight athlete and an outdoorsman. During his professional career he's won 24 matches and lost only 6 times.
Marcus is also an active wilderness explorer, enjoying the Finnish wild forests often, just like a real Caveman.
1. Heya! How are you doing, how did you start your day today?
Hello fellow Warriors! I started my day with some light movement and mobility drills and a breakfast including eggs, berries, yoghurt and a big cup ofWarrior Coffee of course :-)
2. Can you tell us little bit about your daily routines?
Usually I train twice daily and besides that I’m coaching, eating, reading, spending time with friends and family and sleeping. Trying to learn new stuff every day and enjoying life.
3. And what about your daily nutrition routines, what do you eat to stay healthy?
I’m a big sized guy and I train a lot so I have to eat plenty to maintain my weight. For protein I like organic beef, eggs, wild fish and whey protein. For carbs I eat rice, potatoes and oatmeal. To get nutrients I eat lots of berries, greens, nuts and seeds. Now that it’s autumn I try to get as much seasonal food as possible which includes for example wild mushrooms, blueberries and apples. And there is also room for some ice cream in my diet also ;-)
4. As your life is around sports, what do you do when you don't do sports or coach?
Spending time in the nature has always been a big part of my life. That’s the best way for me to relax and calm my mind. I like hiking, fishing, hunting, gathering edible plants, practicing survival skills, swimming in cold water, climbing etc.
5. How do you manage and balance between lots of daily routines, training and coaching?
Time management has always been hard for me but I’m working on it ;-) But focusing on what’s most important at the moment and not trying to multitask all the time has helped.
6. Can you tell us something nobody else knows about you? :)
Well not many people know that I’m a trained chef even though I don’t work as one at the moment. Maybe some day…
7. What motivates you most?
When I finally learn some hard technique I’ve been working on for long and maybe even succeed with it during an actual competition. And when coaching others and seeing them improve is also very rewarding.
8. Do you always set goals to yourself, could you live without them?
I do set goals, some smaller some bigger. I’m always trying to improve myself in all areas of life and I want it to be measurable. It might not work for everyone, but I’m really competitive so for me it’s important to always have goals to strive for.
9. What's your advice to all of us seeking to be the best version of ourselves?
Try to spend time with people who are good in the area you want to improve in. Read books. Try different sports and hobbies. Learn something new every day or week and have fun doing it. Make connections.
10. You like coffee too, what is your favourite coffee drink and the best coffee moment?
The best coffee is enjoyed deep in the woods by a camping fire with good people around, or sometimes all by yourself and the sounds of nature. In these moments, just plain black coffee made with fresh beans and pure pristine water is enough. Nothing else needed.
